Dragon Ball Episode 6 Comparison

It starts off with the three in Oolong's camper capsule in the dessert.

~Bulma was complaining in the Japanese version that she had split ends in her hair and in the English version she was thinking about Yamcha and if she was ever going to see him again. Later she claims in the English version she is checking for fungus in the bathtub and for peepholes in the Japanese version.

~Yamcha saw Bulma in the shower by accident and in the English version it cut a few seconds and blurred her body some.

~In the Subbed Oolong spiked Goku's and Bulma's drinks so that he could fill up on Bulma. In the English Dubbed he intended on stealing the dragon balls.

~A few parts were cut off the English Dubbed, Yamcha touching and looking at Bulma naked and sleeping (all by accident because he was trying to find the dragon balls. It was very funny!)

My favorite part was when Puar and Oolong turned into Goku and Bulma >.<

Sailor Moon 15

Episode 17 Japanese/English Subbed: "Usagi’s a Model: The Flash of the Monster Camera"
Episode 14 English/Dubbed: "Shutter Bugged"

~It starts off with Usagi/Serena finding out that a boy in her school won a national photography award. She gos to get his autograph but is stopped by Rei.
**In the Subbed version Rei didn't think she should be such a fangirl because she didn't know anything about art. Serena got really angry at Rei in the dubbed for being so bossy and sending her back to school.

~On the new communicator some static was added to the picture in the English version and on a picture of Usagi originally the word disqualified was written across it and changed to a circle with a line through it in the dubbed.

~Shingo was making fun of Usagi by saying she couldn't be a model and in the Japanese version her mom flat out agrees with Shingo xD but in the English version she says "you can be whatever you want to be as long as you don't barrow my cloths" :D

~She gos to the arcade and Darian/Mamoru is there and the Dubbed vs the Subbed conversation they have is almost completely different.
**Subbed: Marmoru tells her beauty is found on the inside and that Kinji's a third-rate photographer because he just want to take pictures of any young girl. He also says she doesn't have guts and will probably fail.
**Dubbed: Darian says one insult after another about how clumsy she is and how its hard it is to be a model. He would know, he says, because he was one after high school to pay for tuition.

~After the battle in the Japanese version Nephrite talks to Zoisite and asked him if he found the silver cystal that will wake their ruler. Nothing like that is said in the English version.

~Before and after Serena's dream in the dubbed there was a rippling effect added.

I really liked this episode! very enjoyable :)

Dragon Ball Episode 5 comparison

First of all I should mention that there are many versions of Dragon Ball Dubs, some more edited than others. For my purposes I watch a heavily cut version found here but if I wanted to watch the Dubbed just for fun I would prefer this version that is almost the same as the Japanese version and the voices are much better. I wouldn't have anything to wright about or compare if I watched that now though.

The Episode starts off with Goku, Bulma and Oolong traveling in a motorboat down the river.

~Oolong doesn't want to be there so Bulma, in the Japanese version, says something like 'its so hot, I may not wear pantys tonight' and in English she says sarcastically that he's one of a kind and he's satisfied with that.

~In the Japanese version Goku slaps Oolong's crotch to find out that he's a boy (which will never stop being outrageous and funny) which makes him freak out. He got angry in the Dubbed because Goku mentioned barbecue ;)

~Oolong tells a rumor about the terrible Gyumoe who is known as the Emperor of Demons in the Subbed. But in the English version he talks about a dessert bandit named Yamucha that  turns into a wolf before killing. In another Dubbed version he mentioned only the Ox King and uses a battle ax.

~Goku jumps in the water completely nude in the Japanese version but he has underwear on in the Dubbed.

~To catch the Oolong fish they cast panties out on a line in the Subbed. In the English version there is a stack of money on the hook.

~Bulma calls out Pee Pee! in the Japanese version to get Oolong to have diarrhea and says Piggy Piggy! in the Dubbed.

~There are a few parts that are completely cut out of the English Dubbed like Goku peeing, Oolong turning into panties, and Goku's Rock Paper scissors attack.

Seeing Yamcha ad Puar's first appearance was fun <3

Sailor Moon 14

Episode 13 English: "Wedding Day Blues"  Ep.16 Japanese/Subbed: "Dream of a White Dress! Usagi Becomes a Bride"

~In this episode their Economics teacher is getting married. Most differences I see between the two versions in any anime is not the solution but what the problem is.  In Japanese, Akiyama Higure-sensei wants to make her own dress but can't find the right fabric. Ms. Lambert, in the English version, doesn't have enough money to get a great dress. Either way she has a friend to help her out.

~The Negaverse is already a big deal in the English versionNephrite, a villain, wants to take energy from people to give it to the Negaverse to unleash the Negaforce.
It says nothing about it in the Subbed, though. Nephite looks at at the stars to see what energy would be best to take or what target to go after.

~There is a homemade wedding dress competition and the grand prize in the Japanese version is a free wedding reception. In the English version it is a trip to Hawaii.

~At one point Usagi's mom hits her on head with a tray for saying something rude in Japanese. In the English version her mom holds the tray but doesn't hit her with it.

~I thought it was a good point that in the Japanese version Ami said she doesn't want to get married.

~Usually the Japanese version is harsher and the English is funnier but it switched in this episode. The teacher wasn't answering her phone so her fiance came over and in the English version she was very harsh to him, saying that he was wimpy and balding and the wedding was over. In the Subbed it was basically 'leave me alone until I finish the dress' and freakishly obsessing over it.

Also in the Subbed, in a scene where Usagi was going to steal her mom's curtains to make a dress, I thought it was much funnier and cute than the English version.

~Rai's grandfather is kind of perverted in the Japanese version so when he says something to Ami, Rei hits him. He isn't rude in the English version until he says Rei is 'wigged out over wedding dresses and is completely losing it' xD

It was an okay episode, nothing special.

Dragon Ball Episode 4 comparison

Episode 4 Japanese: Oolong, the Kidnapping Monster English: Oolong the Terrible

~ Goku still doesn't really get the difference between girls and boys, in the Japanese version, so he slaps their crotches and if nothing's there- its a girl xD He did this with the young girl Pokawatha(?) and the old lady Paozu! Bulma gets onto him "No patting people's crotches!"
In the English version Goku said the girl was cute unlike Bulma ^-^  and asked Paozu why she had wrinkles.

~ There is a prophesy, in the English version, that says 'a monster will be toppled over by a boy who could dance on the clouds' and 'liberate them from bondage' (One the people who tells it has an Australian accent!) no such speech is mentioned in the subbed.

~ Oolong is much more perverted in the Subbed. When he changes into a hansom-man he asks Bulma her breast size (which she very willingly says is 85). When it came time to explain his transformation, it was very straightforward (can only hold a shape for 5 min.), however in the English version he has a sort of back story.

~ Goku pees on a tree but you can only see the pee in the Subbed.

~ When they find the girls in the English version they each have really distinct and different accents- so funny!

Nice episode! now we have Oolong =)

Back to Blogging

I've always wanted to keep a blog but every time I went to do it, I didn't know what to wright or it just wasn't important enough to type it out. Now I'm going at it again- let's see how long it lasts. No promises.

Now I stared a project way back with Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball and I fully intend on completing it. I'm also going to make posts about the things I have found and liked here as well.

I was listening to Pandora radio and a Simon & Garfunkel song Scarborough Fair came on. Maybe I had heard it before but I'd never really heard the lyrics or paid as much attention to it as I should have. I put the song on repeat for a while just to soak it up and then started listening to all their albums in order. The music is so wonderful, soft and calming. Its very recognizable as 60s and it connects with me on a deep level.

Since I've only been watching anime regularly for a few years, there are a lot of great series I haven't gotten to yet. Psycho-Pass is the one I'm working on now. I'm on episode 12- its a good half-way mark- and holy crap is it picking up! Thought-provoking, intense and gruesome at times is how I would describe it. The first opening and ending songs are so awesome.

I watched the How I Met Your Mother finale. I'll edit this later to give my full thoughts because I do have a lot of thoughts on it, so much that I don't feel like writing that much right now =)

Edit: This article is basically exactly how I feel about it (Sorry for being so lazy)

Compair Dragon Ball Ep. 3

Episode 3 Japanese: The Turtle Hermit's Kinto Un English: The Nimbus Cloud of Roshi

~This thing appeared for a second. I don't know what it is or why it is in a tree but it didn't say anything in the English Dubbed version. I understand why because this is so random!

~As a gift, Roshi was going to give Goku a Immortal Phoenix in the Japanese version and in the Engish is was going to be a magic carpet. In the Japanese version the Flying Nimbus is called Kinto Un.

Good episode!!
